IT and POS support for restaurants and retail

When the point of sale goes down at seven on a Friday, nothing else matters. I keep payment systems, networks and back-office tools running for shops and restaurants across New York City and Long Island.

Same-day response on business days. Existing clients get an emergency number for evenings and weekends.

What takes a shop or restaurant offline

  • One internet connection with no automatic failover, so a carrier outage stops card payments entirely.
  • Guest Wi-Fi running on the same flat network as the POS terminals — a PCI problem and a genuine security risk.
  • The Wi-Fi router in a hot spot behind the line, quietly cooking, dropping handhelds at the worst hour.
  • Card readers and POS software left on outdated versions because updating them during service felt impossible.
  • Camera systems reachable from the internet with the factory password still set.

What is put in place

  • A separated network: payment terminals, back office, staff devices and guest Wi-Fi each kept apart, which is both a PCI expectation and plain sense.
  • Cellular failover so card payments keep working through an internet outage.
  • Commercial-grade access points placed and mounted for real coverage, including handhelds on the floor and in the dining room.
  • Support for the systems you run — Toast, Square, Clover, Lightspeed, Shopify POS — and coordination with those vendors when the fault is theirs.
  • Patching and updates scheduled outside service hours.
  • Camera and door systems secured properly, with remote viewing that does not leave your shop exposed to the internet.
  • Backups of back-office and inventory data, and a written procedure for taking payments if the system goes down anyway.

Questions

Can you support us outside business hours?

Managed clients get an emergency number, and work that risks interrupting service is scheduled outside opening hours. Restaurants and shops cannot take a maintenance window at noon, so the schedule bends to you.

Do we need to worry about PCI compliance?

If you accept cards, yes — PCI DSS applies through your merchant agreement, and most small merchants complete an annual self-assessment questionnaire. Modern POS systems with point-to-point encryption reduce how much falls on you, but network separation, unique logins and current software remain yours. I set the network up to match what your questionnaire asks and help you answer it honestly.

Our POS vendor says the problem is our internet. Who is right?

Frequently neither, entirely. That argument is a standard call. I test where the fault actually sits and take it up with whichever vendor owns it, so you are not stuck relaying technical claims between two companies during service.

We have several locations. Can they be managed together?

Yes. Standard equipment across sites, central monitoring and one set of security rules makes multiple locations easier rather than harder, and means any staff member can work at any site without a special setup.
